Purpose

The Visual Impairment Knowledge Centre collects, processes and provides information about visual impairment and people with visual impairments. The purpose is to help maintain and promote a high quality of service in the local and regional efforts for people with visual impairments. The centre offers qualified information to, among others, public offices, places of education, workplaces, rehabilitation workers, health workers and people with visual impairment.

 

Activities

Collecting and processing information
  • Collecting information about projects, research and methodological development in Denmark and abroad
  • Library service with limitedlending services
  • Staying up to date on new publications, articles and Internet resources
  • Network collaboration with institutions, organisations and key persons
  • in the area of visual impairment, both in Denmark and abroad
  • Maintaining updated electronic databases on literature, conferences and events and relevant addresses
Providing information
  • Providing information or references to appropriate literature, agency or person
  • Publishing material in the form of books, pamphlets, reports or videos
  • Publishing and distributing the Danish language newsletter Synshandicap
  • Maintaining own website with, among other things, publications and free access to own databases on conferences and events, literature and links
  • Providing references to Danish or international institutions, organisations and key individuals.
  • Arranging lectures, courses and theme days

The services of the Visual Impairment Knowledge Centre are available to both professionals and private individuals. We do not provide specific advice in individual cases, but instead suggest appropriate agencies to contact.

        Organisation

        The Visual Impairment Knowledge centre is an independent agency. The centre is funded by the Danish counties (incl. the boroughs of Copenhagen and Frederiks-berg). The centre has an executive board comprising representatives of the County of West Zealand, the Danish Association of the Blind, The National Association of Parents of Visually Impaired Children and Youth and the Council of Directors of the counties' advisory services for blind and partially sighted people.
